Senior PHP Developer / Tech Lead

WebbyLab is a Ukrainian IT outsourcing company. We develop scalable and feature-rich Web and Mobile applications using Node.js, React.js, React Native, PHP stack. We have successfully completed projects for Daimler Mercedes-Benz, Bayer, Pfizer, Uber, Ezlo, etc.

We are looking for a Senior PHP Developer / Tech Lead to take technical leadership of our PHP direction: helping the team make architectural decisions, conducting code reviews, and maintaining system stability.

This role is for an engineer who not only writes code but also thinks systemically, analyzes complex technical problems, and helps the team find efficient technical solutions.

The project involves large-scale e-commerce systems with complex business logic and high-load environments. Part of the tasks relates to performance optimization, caching, SEO, and the ongoing development of system functionality.

Your skill set:

• 5+ years of commercial experience in PHP development;
• Proven track record in developing and maintaining high-load backend systems;
• Strong understanding of web application architecture and principles of building scalable systems;
• In-depth knowledge of relational databases (MySQL): query optimization, indexing, and handling large-scale data;
• Hands-on experience with caching (Memcached) and search engines (ElasticSearch);
• Proficient with Git and team-based development workflows;
• Experience in conducting code reviews and maintaining codebase quality;
• Solid grasp of OOP principles and Clean Architecture (SOLID);
• Experience working with Docker and containerized environments;
• Ability to analyze and optimize system performance;
• Practical use of AI tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Antigravity) to enhance coding efficiency and productivity.

Would be a plus:

• Architectural planning and technical decision-making within a team;
• Mentoring developers and maintaining engineering standards;
• Working with large legacy systems and their gradual evolution;
• Developing or supporting e-commerce platforms with complex business logic.

Your responsibilities:

• Technical leadership of the PHP direction: establishing development approaches and maintaining engineering standards;
• Conducting code reviews and maintaining a stable, clear codebase structure;
• Architectural planning for system growth and making key technical decisions;
• Analyzing complex production issues and finding technical solutions for system stabilization;
• Optimizing the performance and scalability of backend systems;
• Mentoring developers and assisting the team with complex technical tasks;
• Interacting with managers and clients regarding technical implementation;
• Gradual development and evolution of legacy systems without compromising product stability.
